E/R: Akyem Nwinso chief demands development commitments from mining firm

The Chief of Akyem Nwinso in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, Baffour Yeboah Osei Hwedie II, has directed Longshine Mining Company Limited to fulfil its Corporate Social Responsibilities before commencing mining operations in the community.
The chief’s call focuses on addressing pressing developmental challenges, particularly the poor mobile network connectivity that has long hindered communication and economic growth in the area.
He also highlighted the lack of basic infrastructure such as a market, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions, stressing that these deficits have slowed the community’s overall development.
“We cannot welcome mining operations while our people continue to struggle with poor communication and inadequate social amenities,” the chief said, underscoring the need for improved network infrastructure to drive progress.
Responding to the concerns, Project Manager of Longshine Mining Company, Emmanuel Ahenkora, assured the community of the company’s commitment to support local development initiatives.
He urged residents to trust the company, pledging that it would work closely with the traditional authorities to address priority needs as mining activities move forward.
