President Mahama inspects 45% complete Effia Nkwanta hospital expansion project

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing the expansion of the Effia Nkwanta Teaching Hospital in the Western Region.
Speaking during a visit to the facility, the president explained that the aim of constructing regional hospitals, including the one at Apemanim, was to decentralise healthcare delivery and reduce the heavy pressure on Effia Nkwanta, which had long served as the main referral hospital for the region.
President Mahama said work on the Effia Nkwanta project was about 45 percent complete and progressing steadily, while the Apemanim project was slightly behind.
He described the ongoing construction as impressive and assured that the government, through the ministry of finance, was working closely with contractors to validate and settle outstanding claims to enable them to resume full operations on site.
He emphasised that the expansion was intended to transform Effia Nkwanta into a first-class teaching hospital to better serve the people of the Western Region.
President Mahama also reiterated his belief that governance should be seen as a relay race, where each administration continued the work of its predecessor for the benefit of the nation.
He pledged that his administration will not allow the investment of taxpayers’ money to go to waste, assuring that the next time he returns to the facility, it will be to commission the completed project.
