Titus Glover: Minister descends on hawkers occupying Flower Pot interchange against his word

General News
Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, Greater Accra Regional Minister

The Greater Accra Regional Minister has reacted to the return of hawkers to the newly constructed Flower Pot interchange in Accra.

In a viral video, Mr Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover was seen confronting hawkers illegally stationed at the interchange at Flower Pot, Spintex Road. For instance, he sacked a fruit seller from under the flyover, overturned their table and proceeded to break it apart.

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the GH¢677 million edifice was commissioned by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Mr Titus Glover, at the event, admonished the public against hawking and squatting at the Flower Pot interchange, inviting public collaboration to maintain the flyover's integrity and aesthetics.

On Wednesday, a coconut seller who set up a mobile shop under the interchange captured the attention of the public via new media. According to her, she only returned to the selling point she used before construction work by the China Railway No. 5 Engineering Ghana Limited.

After her, a hawker with banana, pawpaw and other fruits was seen at another spot under the flyover. From the video mentioned earlier, it was this hawker's stand that the Greater Accra Regional Minister tore down.

Mr Titus Glover's actions appear to be an effort at discouraging the springing up of a crowd-pulling hawker's market/centre that could deface the touted dual carriage road infrastructure, not to mention obstructing traffic flow as is routine at interchanges in the capital city, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and Atomic-Legon interchanges – to name only two.
