Rift between Attorney-General and OSP over extradition of Ken Ofori-Atta

The Attorney-General’s Department has written several letters to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) requesting the case docket of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, as part of efforts to initiate his extradition from the United States.
This revelation was made by Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, Deputy Attorney-General, who confirmed that the correspondence forms part of the government’s legal process to ensure Mr. Ofori-Atta faces justice in Ghana.
According to Dr. Srem-Sai, the Department requires full access to the OSP’s investigative records to comply with international extradition protocols and present a comprehensive case through the appropriate judicial and diplomatic channels.
“We have sent multiple formal requests to the Office of the Special Prosecutor to release the full docket on the matter.
That is the procedural step necessary to activate an extradition request,” Dr. Srem-Sai stated.
Sources within the legal establishment indicate that the move underscores the Attorney-General’s commitment to due process and the rule of law, ensuring that no individual is above accountability, regardless of status or location.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has yet to publicly comment on the request or confirm the timeline for releasing the documents.
The Deputy Attorney-General expressed these concerns while speaking on Accra-based GHone TV
As of now, we don't have the docket from the OSP . We have to take the full docket to the US embassy in the same manner it is done with the extradition of Ghanaians to the US
This development comes amid growing public interest in ongoing investigations into alleged financial improprieties during Mr. Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Minister for Finance.
