Renowned football manager Winfried Anton Schafer, has been appointed as Technical Advisor of the Ghana Black Stars team.

Schafer’s mandate is to work diligently with Black Stars Coach Otto Addo to build a triumphant team.

Again, the German has been recognised by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as its Director of Football.

Hugely experienced and accomplished, Schafer, affectionately called Winnie, has as managerial career of at least 40 years.

Over the course of that period, he has worked with national teams like Cameroon – with whom he won the 2002 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Thailand and Jamaica.

Borussia Monchengladbach, Karlsruher SC, VFB Stuttgart and Borussia Berlin, are among the teams he has led in Europe.

Furthermore, the 75-year-old has managed United Arab Emirates clubs like Al Ain, Al-Ahli Dubai, Baniyas, and Al-Khor – his last coaching gig.

Following an abysmal performance at the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, the GFA has revamped the Black Stars technical team.
