GFZA, Customs officials tour Philbro Group’s integrated oil refinery project in Eastern Region
A delegation from the Ghana Free Zones Authority and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has undertaken a working visit to the new project site of Philbro Group Limited at Kyekyewere in the Eastern Region.
The delegation, led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, visited the site on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, as part of ongoing stakeholder engagement and monitoring activities aimed at supporting the development of Free Zones enterprises across the country.
During the visit, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Philbro Group Limited, Philip Brobbey, presented details of the company’s integrated oil refinery project, which is being developed on a 360-acre parcel of land.
According to him, the facility will include a modern processing plant, water treatment facility, staff accommodation units, a canteen, clinic, and daycare centre to support both operations and employee welfare.
Mr. Brobbey further disclosed that by-products from the refinery process would be converted into soap and other value-added products.
He also indicated that the company is producing its own construction blocks for the development of the facility as part of efforts to promote self-sufficiency and local production capacity.
Dr. Awusi expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the site and commended the company for its forward-looking industrial development strategy.
She particularly praised the inclusion of staff welfare facilities such as the daycare centre, clinic, and accommodation units, noting that such interventions would improve employee well-being and productivity.
The GFZA Chief Executive also highlighted the importance of the daycare facility in supporting working mothers and encouraging greater female participation in the industrial sector.
Officials from the Customs Division emphasised the need for continued collaboration to facilitate efficient trade processes and ensure compliance with regulatory standards within the Free Zones enclave.
Dr. Awusi was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Finance and Administration, Musah Sibiri Hamidu; Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations, Lateef Apau Wiredu; Senior Manager for Corporate Affairs, Bilal Muazu Sulemana; Head of Compliance, Michael Larbi; and other officers of the Authority.
