Ghana’s economy grows by 6% in Q2 2026
Ghana’s economy expanded by 6% in the second quarter of 2026, supported by strong growth in the Services and Industry sectors, according to provisional estimates released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
The latest figure reflects continued expansion in economic activity, although growth in the first half of the year remained slightly below the pace recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
For the first half of 2026, Ghana’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) including oil and gas grew by 6.2% compared with 6.4% recorded in the first half of 2025.
The provisional non-oil GDP also expanded by 5.9% in the first half of 2026, down from the 8.2% recorded during the same period last year.
Services remains biggest contributor
The Services sector remained the largest contributor to economic growth, accounting for 52.6% of overall real GDP growth in the first half of 2026.
The sector recorded a half-year growth rate of 7.5% followed by Industry at 5.6% and Agriculture at 3.9%.
Within the Services sector, information and communication emerged as the strongest-performing subsector, recording a remarkable 30.9% year-on-year growth in the second quarter.
The subsector also recorded a 6.8% quarter-on-quarter growth after seasonal adjustment.
Other notable performers included transport and storage which grew by 14.9% and trade and repair of vehicles and household goods which expanded by 5.9%.
However, not all Services subsectors recorded growth.
Accommodation and food service activities contracted by 7.8% while Real Estate declined by 2.6%.
Public Administration and Defence as well as Education each recorded a 4.7% contraction during the quarter.
Industry records stronger performance
The Industry sector grew by 4.3% year-on-year in Q2 2026 with Oil and Gas recording particularly strong growth.
Oil and Gas expanded by 22.4% year-on-year and 4.6% quarter-on-quarter after seasonal adjustment.
Manufacturing grew by 6.6% while electricity recorded 5.1% .growth.
Construction also expanded by 4.4%.
Mining and Quarrying sector as a whole grew by 2.6% while water and sewerage recorded a marginal contraction of 0.6%.
Agriculture grows 3.9% in first half
Agriculture recorded a 3.9% growth rate in the first half of 2026, making it the slowest-growing of the three major sectors.
The sector contributed 13.3% to overall GDP growth during the period while Industry contributed 29.3%
Services with its 52.6% contribution therefore remained the dominant driver of economic expansion.
Expenditure side
From the expenditure approach, the 6% real GDP growth in Q2 2026 was driven mainly by strong increases in NPISH final consumption which grew by 152.1% and net exports which expanded by 112.2%.
Gross capital formation also recorded significant growth of 53% while government final consumption expenditure increased by 10.5%.
This was partly offset by a 1.3% decline in household final consumption expenditure.
The latest figures underscore the growing importance of the Services sector to Ghana’s economic performance, particularly the rapid expansion of information and communication.
Despite contractions in some subsectors, the overall economy maintained a strong growth trajectory in the first half of 2026, recording 6.2% growth.
