Ghana’s economic recovery strengthened significantly in 2025, with the economy expanding by 6 per cent, the World Bank has said.

The growth rate, according to the World Bank Division Director for Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Robert R. Taliercio, was the country’s strongest annual performance since 2019.

Addressing the launch of the World Bank’s Tenth Ghana Economic Update in Accra on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, Mr Taliercio said the positive trend had carried into this year.

Economic growth reached 6.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, he noted.

“The economy grew by 6% in 2025, the fastest pace since 2019, before accelerating further to 6.4% in the first quarter of 2026.”

Mr Taliercio said the figures pointed to progress in efforts to restore macroeconomic stability following the economic difficulties Ghana faced in recent years.

He cautioned, however, that the headline figures should not be taken as evidence that the recovery had fully reached households across the country.

In his assessment, Ghana’s recovery remains “structurally incomplete”, with poverty, limited job creation and infrastructure challenges still weighing on the broader economy.

He said the next phase of the recovery must therefore focus on converting economic expansion into employment, productivity gains and better living conditions.

The World Bank further identified fiscal discipline, stronger domestic revenue mobilisation and the removal of structural constraints as key to keeping the economy on its current growth path.
