The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has praised the Gomoa Easter Carnival initiative, describing it as a “commendable” effort to promote tourism and stimulate local businesses.

The festival, organised by Kwame Asare 'A-Plus' Obeng is set to take place from April 2 to 5, 2026, across communities in the constituency. It will feature performances by top Ghanaian artistes including Kwabena Kwabena, Ofori Amponsah, Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene, Samini, and Shatta Wale, alongside cultural displays, street performances, art exhibitions, food bazaars, a bonfire night, and a grand durbar of chiefs.

Speaking in Parliament, Afenyo-Markin said the event draws inspiration from successful initiatives like the Kwahu Easter festival.

“Recently, we’ve also seen the industry of the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, and he is really protecting the Gomoa enclave. I have heard about the Gomoa Carnival. This morning he brought the Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Ejumako Traditional Area and they were engaging MPs trying their to attract all of us to the Gomoa enclave. This is what he seeks to do to open up the economy of that area. I think it is very commendable,” he said.

He further noted that the initiative should inspire other MPs.

“I think that it is an advantage for us to tell the stories of our areas. If we tell the story well, and we are able to attract tourism, [it will help greatly],” he added, emphasising the importance of domestic tourism alongside international visitors.

The carnival is organised in partnership with Multimedia Group Limited and sponsored by HotWav, aiming to position Gomoa as a key cultural and tourism destination in Ghana.
