GFZA marks Heritage Month
The Ghana Free Zones Authority has climaxed its 2026 Heritage Month celebrations with a vibrant event highlighting Ghana’s cultural diversity and economic aspirations.

Held on March 27 under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope – Celebrating Our Heritage the Free Zones Way,” the programme brought together staff, stakeholders, and partners in a display of unity, tradition, and national pride.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations, Lateef Apau Wiredu, described the occasion as a moment of reflection and unity.

He noted that beyond celebration, the event reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to national development, stressing that GFZA’s work continues to drive tangible outcomes, including industrial growth, increased exports, and expanded opportunities for Ghanaians.

Chief Executive Officer, Mary Awusi, highlighted that the theme reflects the Authority’s broader mandate of shaping Ghana’s economic future.

She explained that through the Free Zones Programme, the Authority has created an enabling environment for businesses to grow and compete globally, contributing to job creation and export diversification.

According to her, Free Zones enterprises now export a wide range of products—from garments and processed foods to pharmaceuticals—across Africa and international markets, showcasing Ghana’s resilience and innovation.

Dr. Awusi emphasised that while economic growth remains a priority, restoring hope is equally important, particularly for young people, entrepreneurs, and communities that depend on industrial development.

She noted that the Authority’s work extends beyond economic metrics to building confidence in Ghana’s future through inclusive opportunities.

Delivering the closing remarks, Deputy CEO for Finance and Administration, Musah Sibiri Hamidu, stressed the importance of strong systems, accountability, and teamwork in sustaining growth.

He urged stakeholders to remain united, noting that Ghana’s greatest strength lies in its people and cultural heritage.

The celebration featured colourful performances by staff and national service personnel representing various regions of Ghana, providing an engaging platform for cultural expression and learning. The event underscored the Authority’s commitment to leveraging Ghanaian ingenuity to drive economic growth while preserving cultural identity.

Officials say the celebration not only marked Heritage Month but also reaffirmed GFZA’s role in building prosperity and restoring hope through trade, investment, and industrial development.
