Ghanaian gospel singer Broda Sammy has opened up about the collapse of his marriage, revealing that his union with his France-based Ghanaian wife, Obaa Yaa, has officially been dissolved.

Speaking during an appearance on United Showbiz on March 14, 2026, the outspoken musician explained that the decision to end the marriage came from his wife’s side of the family and not from him.

According to Broda Sammy, he first learned about the development while performing at a programme in Manso during the 2025 Christmas period.

He said his family head called him to inform him that representatives from his wife’s family had returned the drinks presented during their traditional marriage rites — an act that traditionally signifies the termination of a marriage.

The singer noted that his family initially refused to accept the returned items because he had not been consulted before the move was made.

However, the situation changed when his wife was contacted on the phone during the family gathering.

He said Obaa Yaa confirmed that she had personally instructed her family to return the drinks, thereby formally ending the marriage.

Broda Sammy explained that although the decision came as a surprise to him, he later agreed to the separation after reflecting on the state of their relationship.

He admitted that he and his wife had lived apart for several years, which created distance between them.

The gospel musician also suggested that some people may have given his wife misleading information about him while they were living in different countries, something he believes may have contributed to the breakdown of their relationship.

He further shared that the situation became more complicated when his wife experienced a miscarriage during one of her visits to Ghana, an unfortunate incident he feels placed additional strain on the marriage.

Broda Sammy said he began to realise that the relationship might not survive when his wife and her relatives did not attend his mother’s funeral prior to the finalisation of the divorce.

The singer remains hopeful about the future, stating that he is still open to the idea of settling down again if the right person comes along.
