Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has revealed he could consider contesting a parliamentary seat in Ablekuma if residents call on him to serve, but insists he would run only as an independent candidate.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Shatta Wale emphasized that he would not force himself into politics without a clear mandate from the people.

“I love Ghana so much. If the people of Ablekuma call me, I will definitely go. But I won’t say because I have money now, I’m coming to contest. When they call, I will go, but as an independent candidate,” he said.

The musician, who draws inspiration from films, said leadership should sometimes come in response to a call from the people, citing lessons from the Netflix series The Book of Moses.

He stressed that he does not intend to align with any political party, saying, “Most definitely, but I don’t want to belong to any political party. I want to be myself.”

Shatta Wale also called for reforms to Ghana’s governance framework, arguing that the country needs to move beyond outdated laws and structures, including the 1992 constitution.

Any political ambition, he said, would focus on policy-driven efforts to improve governance and development.

For now, he said he prefers to focus on his personal life and music career, but left the door open for potential future political involvement if called upon by his constituents.
