Francis Amo arrested in copyright dispute linked to Church of Pentecost song

Gospel musician Francis Amo has reportedly been arrested by the Ghana Police Service over a copyright dispute linked to the Church of Pentecost.

According to reports, the arrest took place on April 20, 2026, after a complaint was lodged concerning a song associated with the church.

The issue is said to involve a composition originally written by Elder Moses.

Speaking on the matter during the Max TV Morning Show on April 21, 2026, intellectual property consultant and lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. Oduro Arhin explained that Francis Amo has been involved in recording music for the church since 2008.

Dr. Arhin noted that Amo had produced and uploaded a cover version of the song after allegedly receiving permission, but was later asked to pull it down.

He expressed surprise at the arrest, describing it as unexpected given the musician’s long-standing and professional relationship with the church.

Reports indicate that Amo was held at the police station from around 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. before being granted bail. Witnesses also stated that the police handled the situaton in a calm and professional manner throughout the process.
