Ghanaian highlife artist Kuami Eugene has opened up about a heartbreaking chapter in his life, revealing how he lost close family members and nearly lost his own life within a short period.

In an interview with Anita Akuffo, the “Monica” hitmaker shared that over the course of two years, he lost both his grandmother and his father, people he said meant so much to him.

He explained that things became even more difficult after he survived a serious accident that almost claimed his life.

“There was a point in my life when everything seemed to be falling apart. I lost my grandmother, whom I was extremely close to, and the following year, I also lost my father. Aside from that, there were family problems, and then I got involved in the accident,” he said.

The singer noted that having enough money during that difficult time helped him manage the many responsibilities and expenses that came with the tragedies.

“I thank God I had money at the time because I had to travel home, organise funerals for my grandma and dad, and also pay for surgeries and hospital bills. Without money, the situation would have been far worse,” he stated.

Kuami Eugene also disclosed that he spent four months in the hospital recovering, a situation that prevented him from performing at events and earning an income.

“The same person handling all these responsibilities had to remain in the hospital for four months. And when you don’t perform for that long, there’s no money coming in because shows are my main source of income,” he added.

According to the award-winning musician, one of the most painful parts of the experience was the negative comments he received on social media while trying to recover.

He said some people even spread rumours that he had died, something he described as one of the darkest moments he has faced since becoming famous.
