Bullet discloses $100,000 royalty payment to Ebony’s father amid strained relationship
The CEO of RuffTown Records, Ricky Nana 'Bullet' Agyeman, has disclosed that he recently paid $100,000 to the father of the late Ghanaian musician Ebony Reigns as part of the artiste’s music royalties.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, Bullet stated that the amount represented 50 percent of Ebony’s accumulated royalties, even though the original contract allegedly entitled the singer to only 20 percent.
According to the music executive, Ebony’s father, Nana Opoku Kwarteng (popularly known as Starboy Kwarteng), pushed for an increase in the royalty share following his daughter's untimely death.
“I recently gave Ebony’s father $100,000, which is 50% of Ebony’s royalties. Ebony was entitled to 20% shares, but her father made me increase it to 50%," Bullet stated.
"After we did Ebony’s first party, he said I should give his daughter’s money to him. The money was meant to promote and campaign for Ebony’s work, but I went with him to the bank and withdrew it for him. He doesn’t talk about it anywhere.”
Bullet added that he had previously chosen to keep the financial details private despite facing persistent public criticism from Mr. Kwarteng regarding his management decisions and the handling of the late singer's legacy.
The relationship between the RuffTown Records boss and Ebony’s father has been publicly strained since the singer's passing in 2018, often marked by disagreements over unpaid royalties, management rights, and unreleased music.
Ebony Reigns, born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, died in a tragic road accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway on February 8, 2018, at the age of 20.
Renowned for hit tracks such as Sponsor, Kupe, Maame Hwɛ, and Poison, she remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated female artistes and was posthumously awarded Artiste of the Year at the 2018 Ghana Music Awards.
