TGMA 2026: Black Sherif says ‘Iron Boy’ took 3 years to complete after winning Album of the Year

Black Sherif has revealed that his second studio album, Iron Boy, took three years to complete.

The artiste made the disclosure while accepting the Album of the Year award at the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on May 9, 2026.

Black Sherif requested six minutes on stage to express appreciation to the people who contributed to the project’s success.

The singer, songwriter and rapper mounted the stage alongside a large representation from his team after receiving one of the night’s top honours.

During his speech, he thanked fans for consistently streaming the album across digital streaming platforms and acknowledged the contribution of his management team, which he described as his “powerhouse.”

He also paid tribute to his executive producer, Aubrey.

“Three years of making Iron Boy,” Black Sherif said, explaining that the team travelled across different countries during the recording process, spending long periods in studios and filming music videos.

He further showed off his stylists and reiterated that the album had been in development since “late 2022”.

According to the artiste, the album’s commercial success and critical reception were “not by chance, this is determination, and hardwork”.

Black Sherif also acknowledged video director David Nicol-Sey for the album’s visuals, producer Joker for what he described as the project’s sound architecture, and Samsney for sound engineering work on the album.

The 15-track Iron Boy draws its title from a song by Highlife legend Amakye Dede while also symbolising resilience and strength associated with the iron metal. Since its release in April 2025, the project has maintained a strong presence on radio and streaming charts.

Brand Black Sherif will receive receive GHS100,000 from category sponsor Guinness Ghana to support his next album and its listening party.
