Music star Black Sherif has appealed to Guinness Ghana to redirect his sponsorship package from the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) to support fellow musicians Arathejay and Gonaboy.

Black Sherif made the appeal while delivering his acceptance speech after winning his second Artiste of the Year award at the 27th edition of the ceremony held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on May 9.

Earlier in the night, the artiste had won Album of the Year for his project Iron Boy, a category that came with a GHS100,000 sponsorship package from Guinness Ghana for his next album and an accompanying listening party.

During his speech, Black Sherif said he wanted the album sponsorship to go to Arathejay, known for the song Jesus Christ 2, while the listening party support should be given to Gonaboy, known for Same Timbs.

The gesture highlighted Black Sherif’s support for emerging artistes within the music industry and his willingness to share opportunities with his peers.

The 2023 Artist of the Year was Black Sherif. At the time, the event was known as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), prior to its rebranding to the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). Black Sherif won the night's top honour following the massive success of his debut album, The Villain I Never Was, and hit singles like Kwaku the Traveller and 1st and 2nd Sermon.
