Four people have lost their lives and several others injured following a devastating explosion at a quarry site in Anto-Aboso in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, causing panic among residents as a powerful blast ripped through the area. 

Emergency personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service responded swiftly to the incident, rescuing victims and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion may have involved explosives used in quarry operations, although authorities are yet to establish the exact cause. 

The force of the blast reportedly caused significant destruction at the site and sent frightened residents fleeing for safety.
