The Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that approximately 51 kilometres of the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway route have been cleared as preparatory works continue on the major road project.

According to the Minister, the initial phase of the exercise is being undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama.

In a Facebook update shared on Thursday, May 28, Dr. Forson commended the military for what he described as impressive progress on the project.

He further disclosed that compensation payments to persons affected by the project will begin in June after the completion of assessments by the relevant state institutions.

Dr. Forson described the Accra-Kumasi Expressway as one of the country’s key infrastructure projects expected to boost economic activity and improve transportation between the two major commercial centres.

According to him, the project is being executed steadily and professionally, with government focused on laying the foundation for a major transport corridor expected to support trade, connectivity and national development.

The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is expected to ease travel challenges and improve movement of goods and services along one of Ghana’s busiest highways.
