ECG to complete major power network upgrade in Greater Kumasi by June 5
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that work on a major power network upgrade in the Greater Kumasi area is expected to be completed by June 5, 2026.
According to ECG, the ongoing project involves the upgrading of key sub-transmission lines from the KNUST Primary Substation to the Kaase Primary Substation, as well as from Kaase to the Ridge Bulk Supply Point in Kumasi.
The company explained that the project includes replacing existing 265 square millimetre conductors with larger 400 square millimetre conductors to improve power transfer capacity. Weak cables along the transmission route are also being replaced to help improve the stability and reliability of electricity supply within the area.
ECG stated that the upgrade is expected to improve voltage quality and ensure a more reliable electricity supply to communities such as Kaase, Kuntenase, Sewua, Bekwai, and nearby towns.
The company further noted that the project will strengthen the connection between the Kumasi 1 (K1) and Kumasi 2 (K2) Bulk Supply Points, helping to improve the overall resilience of the electricity network across the Ashanti Region.
ECG apologised to residents and customers for any inconvenience caused during the execution of the project and assured the public that the temporary challenges are necessary to secure a stronger and more dependable electricity supply for the region.
The statement was issued by the Corporate Communications Directorate of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
