The Ahafo Ano South West District Chief Executive, Abubakar Sedik, has urged Ghanaians to see Ghana’s independence not just as a historical milestone, but as a "continuing duty" to build a stronger nation through discipline and collective responsibility.

During the 69th Independence Day celebration at Mankranso, he emphasised that the celebration was a moment for citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of founding fathers like Dr Kwame Nkrumah, whose legacy should inspire a renewed commitment to national development and improved livelihoods.

Detailing a wave of development projects aimed at improving living conditions across the district, he highlighted several classroom blocks and kindergarten facilities currently under construction at Manhyia, Oseikrom, Asuoabena, Kunsu SDA Basic School, and others.

He said these efforts are being supported by the installation of institutional latrines and the provision of furniture for schools in Afreseni, Kunsu, Barniekrom, and Wioso, to enhance sanitation and learning environments.

The Assembly, he said, is also prioritising water security with the construction of a 50,000-litre high-level water storage tank and a mechanised borehole at Mankranso Senior High School.

This follows a significant academic milestone for the school, which is being processed for an upgrade to a Category “B” institution following its impressive performance in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz.

The DCE also announced that Wioso Senior High School has been officially absorbed into the government system, with teaching staff already receiving their appointment letters.

He expressed concern over recent reports of school violence and urged students to eschew social vices in favour of dialogue and skill acquisition.

Mr Sedik commended the dedication of teachers and appealed to traditional leaders to remain pillars of peace.
