The Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital chapter, has raised objections to management’s decision to reverse the appointment of the Head of Laboratory Services and place oversight of the Central Laboratory under new administrative control.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 5, the group said it had taken note of management’s communication indicating that the change was made on the directive of the hospital’s governing board, with the Director of Medical Affairs expected to supervise the Laboratory Sub-BMC.

However, GFAHP referenced a stakeholder meeting led by the Ministry of Health on February 3, 2026, during which it was agreed that a Medical Laboratory Scientist should head Laboratory Services to strengthen accountability, professionalism, and governance.

The Federation stressed that the February agreement was a consensus outcome intended to support industrial harmony, not a unilateral directive.

It argued that the latest reversal undermines the Ministry-led agreement, established professional standards, and the autonomy of Allied Health practice, warning that it has created concern among staff and could weaken confidence in ongoing engagements.

GFAHP is therefore urging management to reconsider and restore the earlier arrangement, insisting that the consensus reached at the Ministry level be fully implemented.

The group further called for swift action to preserve industrial peace and sustain trust between management and Allied Health professionals.

While reaffirming its willingness to engage constructively, the Federation cautioned that it will rely on lawful collective processes if the matter remains unresolved.

The development comes as the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers’ Union has also announced plans to begin a nationwide strike on May 12, 2026, over the same issue.
