Court remands suspect in Akwatialine land dispute violence
The prime suspect in the recent land dispute-related violence at Akwatialine, which left one person dead and two others injured, has been remanded by the court.
The disclosure was made by Interior Minister and Asawase Member of Parliament, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, during a ceremony where he presented classroom furniture, equipment, and tools to schools and apprentices in his constituency.
According to Mr Muntaka, the suspect is alleged to have fired the gun involved in the incident and was arraigned today.
Investigations are ongoing, including an autopsy at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), to facilitate the release of the deceased’s body to the family.
Mr Muntaka described the incident as unfortunate and assured that justice would be served. He also expressed concern over why the suspect allegedly fired a gun while at the disputed land with police officers present.
In the same statement, Mr Muntaka highlighted government efforts to enhance security, including plans to expand the operations of the Signals Bureau to other regions and use camera installations to monitor streets nationwide.
He further emphasised the seriousness of gun control, noting that over 4,000 firearms have been retrieved through the gun amnesty programme and will be destroyed.
The interior minister urged the public to maintain peace and promote coexistence.
