Dafeamekpor demands suspension over alleged forged documents in ¢4.8m defence deal
The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has called for the immediate suspension of the former Director of Procurement at the Ministry of Defence over allegations that forged documents were used in an attempted purchase of six vehicles intended for monitoring the 2024 General Elections.
His call follows findings by the Auditor-General, which disallowed store receipt vouchers amounting to ¢4.8 million during a special audit of government commitments and outstanding payments. The report indicated that the vehicles cited in the transaction had not been delivered.
Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee, the former Procurement Director, Frank Oliver Kpodo, stated that the vehicles were initially supplied but were later removed from the ministry’s premises over concerns that payment might not be made. He added that he subsequently recommended an extension of the contract.
“…You personalise the transactions, so they became your personal burden. How many vehicles were involved? If you can’t tell us where the vehicles are, at least tell us how many there were. So for me, my demand is that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources should interdict this man. He should be interdicted,” Dafeamekpor asserted.
However, his explanation raised concerns among members of the committee.
In response, the Ranking Member, Samuel Atta-Mills, referred the matter to the Attorney-General for further action, including possible prosecution.
