The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has declared Dr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, a member of the Council of State, wanted in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged gold fraud.

In a public statement, EOCO said it had taken note of recent media publications, including comments attributed to the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, regarding its investigations into SESI-EDEM Company Ltd, an entity owned and promoted by Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple.

According to EOCO, the Office is currently handling three separate petitions against the suspect and his company. The petitions, it said, all relate to allegations of gold fraud and appear to follow a similar pattern.

EOCO clarified that its actions are in line with its legal mandate and rejected what it described as misleading public statements surrounding the case. The Office maintained that it is conducting its investigations in accordance with the law.

The statement further alleged that promoters of SESI-EDEM Company have acted as though they are above the law while attempting to build support to obstruct investigations and the course of justice.

EOCO disclosed that since November 2025, it has given Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple and his company the opportunity to respond to the allegations and assist with investigations. However, it said the suspect has failed to comply and is instead relying on political, traditional, and media channels.

The Office described Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple as a fugitive from justice, indicating that he is currently on the run and is believed to be hiding in the Volta Region.

EOCO added that its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) has been deployed to locate and arrest the suspect. It also called on the public to provide information on his whereabouts to the nearest EOCO office.

The Office emphasised that no individual is above the law and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to bring the suspect before the courts.

The statement was issued by EOCO’s Public Affairs Unit.
