President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to safeguard the country’s peace and remain united in the face of growing intolerance, extremism and division across parts of the world.

Speaking at the national Eid al-Adha celebrations held at Black Star Square on Wednesday, May 27, the President said the lessons of Eid remain particularly important at a time many countries are experiencing conflict and social tensions.

According to him, Ghana continues to stand out as a peaceful nation where people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds coexist harmoniously.

He noted that Muslims and Christians in Ghana have for many years shared schools, workplaces, communities and family relationships, describing the country’s peaceful coexistence as a legacy that must be protected.

President Mahama urged citizens, regardless of their background, to continue promoting tolerance, understanding and mutual respect in their daily lives.

He further cautioned against acts and ideologies capable of undermining national cohesion, including political intolerance, tribal divisions and extremism.

The President also referenced the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, describing his life as one guided by humility, mercy, honesty, justice and kindness.

According to him, such values should serve as a guide for both Muslims and the wider Ghanaian society in strengthening unity and peaceful coexistence.
