Accra has hosted the Landfills2Landmarks Summit, a multi-stakeholder forum focused on promoting responsible and sustainable textile trade practices in Ghana and across global supply chains.

The summit, held under the theme “TRACE. ACCOUNT. REBUILD.”, brought together government representatives, traders, investors, and development partners to deliberate on the future of the textile industry and its environmental impact.

Discussions centred on strengthening accountability systems, improving industry standards, and addressing the growing challenge of textile waste, while also safeguarding livelihoods within the sector.

Participants also explored ways to build more transparent and traceable trade systems that ensure responsibility is shared across the entire value chain—from production and importation to distribution and disposal.

The forum highlighted Ghana’s growing role in shaping global conversations on fair trade and environmental sustainability, particularly in balancing economic opportunities with ecological responsibility.

Speaking at the event, Joyce Bawah Morgtari, Spokesperson to President Mahama  emphasized that sustainable solutions require collective action, stronger regulatory frameworks, and closer collaboration between governments and industry players.

The summit concluded with a renewed call for traceable trade practices and shared accountability as key pillars for building a more sustainable textile economy that benefits both people and the environment.
