President John Dramani Mahama has called on Muslims and the wider Ghanaian public to shun selfishness, hatred, greed and all forms of division as the country marks Eid al-Adha.

Delivering his Eid address at Black Star Square on Wednesday, May 27, the President said the celebration should inspire citizens to embrace sacrifice, compassion, unity and service to humanity.

Addressing Muslim worshippers, traditional authorities, government officials and members of the diplomatic corps gathered for the occasion, President Mahama urged Ghanaians to use the spiritual lessons of Eid-ul-Adha to strengthen peace, tolerance and national togetherness.

According to him, the significance of the festival extends beyond the symbolic sacrifice of animals and carries important moral values that should shape human behaviour and relationships.

He said Eid encourages people to live selflessly, care for one another and avoid attitudes that create hatred, greed and indifference towards the suffering of others.

The President noted that growing economic and social pressures across many societies make it necessary for citizens to show empathy, kindness and solidarity.

He further stressed that national progress cannot thrive in an environment marked by disunity, discrimination and hostility, urging Ghanaians to place the collective interest of the country above personal and political interests.

President Mahama added that true worship is rooted in sincerity, humility, devotion and compassion towards humanity.
