The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has held a mission accomplishment parade for the Army Engineer Reconstruction Team (ERT) Company 1 at the 48 Engineers Parade Square, Wajir Barracks in Teshie, Accra, recognising the unit’s successful humanitarian deployment to Jamaica.

The 54-member engineering contingent was deployed on December 16, 2025, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean nation.

The team was officially received on return by the President of the Republic of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief of the GAF, John Dramani Mahama, who commended the soldiers for their professionalism, discipline and dedication.

President Mahama noted that the mission formed part of Ghana’s commitment to international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, adding that the deployment had strengthened bilateral relations between Ghana and Jamaica, as well as with other Caribbean states.

During the ceremony, the president presented a citation to the contingent in recognition of their outstanding service and contribution to recovery efforts in affected communities.

He also praised the Officer Commanding ERT COY 1, Colonel Emmanuel Asia, for his exemplary leadership, which he said reflected the high standards of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The 90-day mission saw the reconstruction of homes in Saint Elizabeth Parish, including Middle Quarters, Black River, Thorton and surrounding communities, significantly improving living conditions for residents impacted by the hurricane.

Among dignitaries present at the parade were the Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi; the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong; Service Chiefs; senior military officers; families of the troops; and pupils from schools within the Wajir Barracks enclave.
