GOLDBOD denies ¢1 billion Bank of Ghana overdraft claim
The Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) has rejected a claim by Tano South MP Dr Gideon Boako that the institution owes the Bank of Ghana (BoG) a GH¢1 billion unpaid overdraft.
In a statement, GOLDBOD described the claim as “totally false” and part of what it called a deliberate and malicious smear campaign against the institution.
GOLDBOD said it has never borrowed from the central bank or any financial institution since its establishment.
“For the records, the GoldBod has never at any time since its establishment taken a loan, overdraft or any debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution whatsoever.”
It described the claim attributed to Dr Boako as “contrived” and called on the MP to withdraw it.
“The claim attributed to Dr. Gideon Boako is contrived and should be treated with utmost contempt.”
GOLDBOD further urged the Tano South MP to retract the claim and apologise.
“We entreat the MP to unequivocally retract and apologize for putting out this falsehood.”
The statement was signed by Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer of GOLDBOD.
