The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has announced that emergency repair works will be carried out on the Dzorwulu Footbridge following an incident involving a lowbed truck transporting heavy equipment that struck the structure in February 2026.

According to the Authority, an emergency inspection conducted by the Bridge Maintenance Unit confirmed that the footbridge sustained minimal structural damage, resulting in a slight shift of the superstructure. The GHA stated that although the bridge has not collapsed, the damage poses potential safety risks to both pedestrians and motorists if immediate action is not taken.

As a precautionary measure, the Authority will implement controlled access to the bridge while urgent repair works are undertaken. The planned interventions will include structural repairs to the affected sections, rehabilitation of the walking surface, and strengthening of safety components such as handrails.

The repair works are scheduled to take place from 18 April 2026 to 24 April 2026, with the aim of minimizing disruption to traffic flow.

The Ghana Highway Authority also indicated that additional measures will be introduced to prevent similar incidents in the future, including the installation of height restriction signage and improved monitoring of over-height vehicles.

The Authority assured the public of its commitment to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure and urged road users to comply with traffic regulations, particularly those relating to vehicle height restrictions.

The GHA apologised for any inconvenience caused and expressed appreciation for public cooperation during the repair period. For further information, the Public Affairs Division can be contacted via WhatsApp on 0551622244.
