NYA distributes tools to apprentices and master craftspersons in Weija Gbawe
The National Youth Authority (NYA), through government’s National Apprenticeship Programme, has distributed tools and equipment to apprentices and master craftspersons in Weija Gbawe to support skills development and reduce unemployment.
The beneficiaries received industrial sewing machines, knitting machines, safety wear, and other equipment to enhance practical training and improve productivity. The support is aimed at providing apprentices with hands-on experience while equipping master craftspersons to train effectively.
The Weija Gbawe Municipal Chief Executive, Felix Odartey Lamptey, said the initiative forms part of government’s efforts to address unemployment through vocational and technical skills training. He noted that equipping young people with employable skills is essential in tackling joblessness and added that the tools could help beneficiaries establish their own businesses after training.
The Greater Accra Regional Coordinator for the National Apprenticeship Programme, Jones Klutse, encouraged master craftspersons to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and strong work ethics in their training roles. He also urged apprentices to remain committed to their trades, saying dedication and hard work are key to success.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support and called for additional interventions to expand training opportunities.
