The Vice President, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, in collaboration with the Central Regional Coordinating Council, has distributed 4,000 sanitary pads to 22 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Central Region for onward distribution to female students.

The initiative, led by the Central Regional Minister, Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah, is aimed at supporting girls, particularly in rural communities, to manage menstrual hygiene and remain in school.

Briefing the media, Mr Eduamoah said the intervention forms part of the broader agenda of President John Dramani Mahama and the Vice President to promote inclusivity and address challenges affecting the girl child.

He noted that the Vice President had pledged to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians who struggle to provide sanitary products for their wards, especially in underserved areas.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Assemblies, the Dean of MMDCEs and District Chief Executive for Ekumfi District, Ismeal Nana Asamoah, assured that the sanitary pads would be distributed equitably to reach the most vulnerable students.

He emphasised that the initiative would help reduce absenteeism among girls and make education more accessible and attractive.

Meanwhile, the Central Regional School Feeding Coordinator, Janet Quansah, commended the government for the intervention, describing it as a significant step towards improving educational outcomes and promoting menstrual hygiene among female students in the region.

The distribution is part of ongoing efforts to enhance educational access and welfare for girls across the country.
