The Deputy Director of Elections and Information Technology of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama’s push for visa-free access across Africa aligns with the pan-African vision of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Monday, April 6, Mr. Tanko-Computer said the current administration’s approach to regional integration and free movement reflects a continuation of Nkrumah’s long-standing goal of a united and economically integrated African continent.

He described President Mahama as an emerging global figure, citing what he characterised as growing international influence and diplomatic engagement.

Mr. Tanko-Computer also pointed to what he described as the President’s ability to rally international support at the United Nations, suggesting it reflects strong backing from both African and global leaders.

He further indicated that President Mahama could assume a more prominent leadership role within continental bodies such as the African Union, adding that discussions among West African leaders signal broad support for his leadership.

According to him, the visa-free initiative is aimed at removing barriers to movement across the continent to boost trade, business growth, and economic integration.

He noted that the policy is being pursued through diplomatic engagement rather than direct government funding.

Mr. Tanko-Computer maintained that the initiative, if fully implemented, would help create a more open and competitive environment for African economies while strengthening regional cooperation.
