The Asokore Mampong Municipal Security Council has announced plans to strictly enforce road traffic regulations on operators of rickshaws, popularly known as “Adedeta,” following rising concerns over indiscipline in the municipality.

According to a statement issued after a meeting held on April 1, 2026, the Council, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and executives of various Adedeta stations, resolved to clamp down on widespread violations that pose security and safety risks.

The Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of the Council, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, indicated that full enforcement of traffic regulations will commence on April 15, 2026.

As part of the new directives, foreigners will not be permitted to operate Adedeta services within the municipality.

Any foreign national found engaging in such activities will be arrested and prosecuted alongside the vehicle owner.

The Council also stressed that only riders with valid documentation, including driver’s licences and roadworthy certificates, will be allowed to operate.

It further warned that minors engaged in operating the vehicles, as well as their owners, will face prosecution.

Additionally, the directive caps the number of passengers per Adedeta at three, cautioning that overloading constitutes a punishable offence under the law.

The Council has urged all operators to comply with the regulations to promote road safety and maintain order across the municipality.

The move forms part of broader efforts by local authorities to address transport-related challenges and enhance security within Asokore Mampong.
