The Government of Ghana has announced plans to engage authorities in Burkina Faso following the country’s decision to suspend the export of fresh tomatoes.

The directive, which took effect on March 16, 2026, has raised concerns among traders and stakeholders within Ghana’s agricultural sector, particularly those who rely on cross-border tomato supply.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations and Communication Unit, the government said the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, together with other relevant state institutions, will lead discussions with their Burkinabè counterparts to address the situation.

The talks are expected to focus on resolving concerns surrounding the ban and identifying a mutually beneficial path forward for both countries.

Authorities also reiterated their commitment to strengthening local production through initiatives such as the “Feed Ghana” and “Feed the Industry” programmes, which are aimed at boosting output to meet domestic demand.

Meanwhile, the government has urged tomato traders and industry players to remain calm as diplomatic efforts continue to secure an amicable resolution.
