The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, says close to 90,000 young people have been employed under programmes implemented by the ministry over the past year.

According to him, the beneficiaries are working in different sectors and are being paid regularly.

Speaking at a town hall meeting at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School during President John Mahama’s regional tour of the Savannah Region, Mr Opare Addo said the government was making progress in addressing youth unemployment.

“In the last year since we assumed office, we have employed close to 90,000 young people, and I want to tell you that we don't even owe one single person under the YEA,” he said.

He added that the government’s youth development programmes cover sectors including agriculture and health, and encouraged young people to take advantage of the opportunities available.

Mr Opare Addo said the programmes are intended to create sustainable jobs and improve the livelihoods of young people across the country.

He also assured that the government remains committed to expanding employment opportunities for the youth through targeted interventions and partnerships.
