The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has reiterated the government's commitment to improving the welfare, accommodation and working conditions of personnel of the security services.

Speaking during an engagement with officers of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Prisons Service in the Volta Region, the minister commended them for their role in maintaining peace, security and democratic governance.

He said Ghana’s reputation as one of Africa’s most peaceful and stable democracies is largely due to the professionalism and dedication of the security services.

Mr Muntaka acknowledged concerns raised by personnel, including accommodation shortages, delays in the payment of allowances, inadequate office facilities and other operational challenges.

He disclosed that all outstanding non-salary allowance arrears up to the first quarter of 2026 had been processed and submitted to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department for payment.

The minister also announced that Cabinet has approved the mechanisation of non-salary allowances, which will allow approved allowances to be paid alongside monthly salaries and help reduce payment delays.

On housing, he described accommodation as one of the most significant welfare challenges facing security personnel and said government is exploring partnerships with private investors to develop affordable prefabricated housing units for officers.

He further revealed that discussions have been held with foreign investors to support the initiative.

Mr Muntaka also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects within the Ghana Immigration Service, noting that the Service has been granted approval to retain part of its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to support office and accommodation projects.

He said construction of new regional immigration offices is currently underway in the Volta, Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Savannah, Western, Central and Bono regions.

The minister assured personnel of continued government efforts to improve their conditions of service and address operational challenges across the security sector.
