NACOC seizes over 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis in Volta Region operation
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized more than 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis in an anti-drug operation at Gbi-Wegbe near Hohoe in the Volta Region.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of May 31, 2026, led to the seizure of 2,372.38 kilograms of the suspected substance, with an estimated street value of GH¢1,186,190.
NACOC said the action followed intelligence indicating that a farmhouse and warehouse in the area were being used to store and distribute illicit drugs.
Acting on the information, officers raided the premises and recovered the suspected cannabis.
The Commission described it as a major breakthrough in efforts to combat drug cultivation, trafficking, storage and distribution.
Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been announced so far.
However, NACOC said efforts are underway to track down those involved.
The Commission said the seizure is part of a wider strategy to dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent drug abuse, especially among young people.
It reaffirmed its commitment to enforcement and collaboration with security agencies and communities to protect public health and safety.
