Zoomlion Ghana Limited has rejected findings contained in the Auditor-General’s report on the 13th All-African Games, denying allegations of duplicated labour charges and questionable billing linked to sanitation and vector control services provided during the tournament.

The waste management company, in a statement issued on Wednesday, May 27, described the audit conclusions as inaccurate and maintained that the report failed to properly distinguish between separate service agreements executed during the Games.

According to Zoomlion, the Auditor-General wrongly treated janitorial and vector control operations as a single contract and therefore misinterpreted labour-related costs captured under both service arrangements as duplicated charges.

The company explained that the vector control component covered activities such as mosquito spraying, fogging and the control of reptiles, rodents and cockroaches using specialised equipment, while the janitorial contract focused on cleaning, waste collection, toilet maintenance and daily sanitation at event venues.

Zoomlion insisted that the labour costs referenced in both contracts related to different operational teams, schedules and technical assignments.

The company further stated that the service agreements clearly outlined the scope of work, which included more than 30 operational activities such as vacuum cleaning, medical waste disposal, provision of mobile toilets, water supply and cesspit management.

According to the company, operations were carried out across major competition venues including the Accra Sports Stadium, Borteyman Sports Complex, Achimota Cricket Oval and Bukom Boxing Arena.

Zoomlion also disclosed that more than 350 personnel underwent training at the Army Peace Operations Training School ahead of the Games to support round-the-clock sanitation and vector control activities throughout the competition period.

The company argued that its services contributed significantly to the successful hosting of the Games without any major sanitation failures or disease outbreaks recorded during the event.
