The Ministry of Health has announced that more than 8,000 health professionals are expected to be recruited as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

Briefing the press in Accra, the Director of Human Resource for Health Development, Frederick Mensah Acheampong, said the recruitment process is aligned with the objectives of the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) Policy, which prioritises preventive, community-based and primary healthcare services, especially in underserved communities.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare by addressing critical staffing gaps in the health sector nationwide.

According to the Ministry, a newly introduced recruitment portal has so far received more than 53,440 applications, with Registered General Nurses forming the largest group of applicants.

The Ministry further disclosed that the portal will be reopened briefly for a mop-up exercise to fill remaining vacancies, particularly for Registered Public Health Nurses and Mental Health Nurses.

Authorities also cautioned the public against fraud and illegal payments linked to the recruitment process, noting that security agencies are currently investigating individuals engaged in such activities.

The Ministry assured that successful applicants will be shortlisted and invited for interviews, after which final placements will be made based on merit and available positions.
