‘I call for restraint and patience’ - National Chief Imam’s spokesperson ‘calms’ recent Christian/Muslim tensions
Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, the spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has called for restraint and patience among Muslims and Christians following recent tensions over comments concerning Prophet Mohammed.
Speaking at an engagement convened by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, between Christian and Muslim religious leaders at the Emergency Command Centre of the Police Headquarters in Cantonments, Accra, the spokesperson thanked the IGP for his timeous response in managing the situation.
“Thank you for how swiftly you managed this situation,” he said.
He called on all those who had been hurt by the developments to exercise self-control and tolerance.
“I call for restraint and patience,” he said.
The spokesperson said his remarks on the issue and his call for peace would form part of his preaching and prayers this afternoon for Islamic Friday worship.
He also called on other imams to be inspired by the same message of restraint and peace.
