The Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has addressed public concerns over the online aptitude examinations for Ghana’s security agencies, emphasizing that rigorous measures were essential given the exceptionally high number of applicants.

Speaking to the media, the interior minister disclosed that more than 500,000 individuals applied for positions across the Police, Fire, Prisons, and Immigration Services. To narrow the field to just 5,000 recruits, candidates were required to achieve a minimum score of 65 percent on the aptitude test.

He dismissed allegations that recruitment opportunities were being distributed outside official channels, affirming that all selections are conducted solely on merit.

The Minister added that the stringent approach is designed to uphold fairness and transparency while efficiently handling the unprecedented demand for careers in the security sector.

“Medicals require payment, so in order not to shortchange innocent young people, it is better you put in a mechanism that will reduce the number drastically. Are you going to allow over 400,000 people to go and do medicals when you know you have space for only 5,000? So you need to devise a method where you slow down the number, so the pass mark was put at 65,” he said.

“We have to use a system that is devoid of human interference to enable the system to carry you to that end. Yes, I know the disappointment, I know the difficulty, but the issue is about joblessness, not security,” the Minister emphasised.
