President Emmerson Mnangagwa has described the inaugural session of the Zimbabwe-Ghana Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation as a significant milestone in strengthening relations between Zimbabwe and Ghana.

Speaking during bilateral talks with President John Dramani Mahama, President Mnangagwa outlined plans to deepen collaboration across key sectors, including energy, industry, trade, labour, tourism, heritage, and education.

He indicated Zimbabwe’s readiness to share its heritage-based education model and expand professional exchanges, particularly among foreign service officials and medical practitioners.

The Zimbabwean leader also called for closer cooperation in mining, agriculture, and renewable energy, emphasising the importance of value addition, sustainable practices, and knowledge sharing to drive economic growth in both countries.

President Mnangagwa reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to global peace and expressed appreciation to Ghana for supporting its bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

He further advocated the removal of longstanding unilateral sanctions on Zimbabwe.

He also commended Ghana for its role in advancing historical justice, particularly through its support for a recent United Nations resolution recognising the transatlantic slave trade and racialised enslavement as crimes against humanity.
