NADMO confirms electrocution death during Accra downpour
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) says one person lost his life during Monday’s rainfall after coming into contact with an electrified structure in the Ga East Municipality.
Speaking on the incident, Greater Accra Regional Director of NADMO, Dennis Nartey Ajannor, said the victim had attempted to take cover beside a container during the rains.
According to him, the container had been charged with electricity, leading to the man’s death.
“We recorded one casualty as a result of the person seeking shelter from a container which unfortunately had been electrocuted. So he passed,” Mr Ajannor said.
NADMO said the deceased has not yet been identified, although officials estimate he was between 35 and 40 years old.
The remains have been transferred to a mortuary within the Ga East Municipal Assembly area.
The death comes amid ongoing flooding in sections of Accra and other parts of the country following heavy rains.
NADMO says emergency response teams have been activated nationwide, particularly in communities considered vulnerable to flooding, to support rescue and relief operations.
The organisation added that its operational structure allows local response teams to act immediately once emergency cases are reported.
