The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is scheduled to depart Ghana this week for an official working visit to Poland and Canada, putting temporary administrative leadership structures in place within Asanteman to manage traditional affairs during his time abroad.

The Asantehene announced his upcoming travel itinerary to the members of the Asanteman Council during an emergency meeting convened at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, May 25, 2026.

According to the itinerary outlined at the gathering, the monarch will first travel to Poland before proceeding to Canada for the second leg of his visit.

In line with the kingdom's traditional governance protocols, day-to-day oversight of Asanteman will temporarily transfer to the Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, who has been appointed to steer the affairs of the Asante Kingdom while the King is away.

This delegation aligns with a long-standing structural convention within the Asante state where senior traditional authorities assume caretaker responsibilities to ensure uninterrupted governance and dispute resolution.

Postponement of Traditional Judicatory Proceedings

The Asantehene also addressed individuals who have active cases currently pending before the Asanteman Council, a body heavily relied upon by locals for traditional arbitration and mediation.

"Our proceedings will resume as soon as I return," the monarch stated, advising all litigants and involved parties to maintain patience until the council reconvenes upon his arrival back in Ghana.

Concurrently, local administrative oversight for the Kumasi traditional area has been delegated to the Nkwantakesehene, Nana Boadakye Yaw Ababio, for the duration of the King's overseas trip.
