Workers of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) say they have gone 15 months without salaries, leaving many in financial distress despite continuing to respond to disasters across the country.

Speaking to Adom TV, one male NADMO worker said the prolonged delay in salary payments had taken a toll on staff.

"Men can't give money to take care of their family, some workers have died while others have fallen sick," he said during a video call.

According to him, information available to workers suggests the Ministry of Finance has acknowledged the salary arrears but has only assured payment for three months.

He said the situation had become even more difficult as NADMO personnel continued to respond to flooding, fire outbreaks and building disasters with limited resources.

The worker also claimed the organisation lacked basic logistics needed for its operations.

"We don't have cars, motorbikes," he said.

"Even for transportation, we use our own pocket money. They don't even support us."

He further alleged that directors often have to pay out of their own pockets to respond to emergencies in remote communities.

"You the director have to rent a car, a motorbike and fuel it," he said.

He appealed to the media to help draw attention to the workers' plight and advocate for the payment of their outstanding salaries.
