NAHSAG raises concerns over health recruitment exercise
The National Health Students' Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) has expressed concern over the ongoing recruitment exercise being conducted by the Ministry of Health, calling for a more transparent, fair, and sustainable system for recruiting health professionals across the country.
In a statement signed by NAHSAG President Ahmed Yakubu, the Association described the current recruitment process as inadequate, noting that more than 105,000 trained health professionals remain unemployed while only about 8,000 recruitment slots have been made available nationwide.
According to the Association, the limited number of vacancies represents less than eight percent of the unemployed health workforce, leaving many qualified professionals without employment opportunities.
NAHSAG also raised concerns about challenges associated with the recruitment portal, citing technical failures, inaccessible application slots, and system congestion that reportedly frustrated many applicants during the exercise.
The Association is therefore calling on the Ministry of Health to introduce a more credible and technologically reliable recruitment system that prioritises applicants based on their year of graduation while also increasing financial clearance and recruitment numbers to absorb more trained professionals into the health sector.
Additionally, NAHSAG criticised the proposed community volunteer arrangement for health professionals, describing the initiative as unethical and exploitative.
The Association further demanded the implementation of the automatic posting policy for trained health professionals and urged the Ministry to engage stakeholders in finding lasting solutions to unemployment within the health sector.
