The Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rev Ing Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, has called on telecommunications companies in Ghana to enhance service quality and ensure that consumers receive full value for their expenditures.

He noted that persistent complaints regarding dropped calls, weak network coverage, and poor internet connectivity remain the most frequent concerns expressed by the public.

Rev Fianko made these remarks at an Industry Stakeholder Forum held in Accra on Monday, May 18, as part of activities marking the 2026 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day and the NCA’s 30th anniversary.

He emphasised that although the telecommunications sector has experienced significant growth over the years, gaps in service delivery continue to pose a serious threat to public confidence.

He further indicated that the regulator will intensify enforcement measures and publish network performance data to ensure greater accountability among service providers.

Rev Fianko also underscored the collective responsibility of industry players and stakeholders in improving service delivery nationwide.

According to him, the NCA has already strengthened quality-of-service benchmarks and reviewed improvement plans submitted by mobile network operators, including initiatives such as capacity expansion, fibre infrastructure upgrades, and the development of new network sites.

He further disclosed that while operators have pledged to implement these improvements, the NCA will rigorously monitor progress and enforce compliance where necessary.

The NCA boss also appealed to the public and key stakeholders, including road contractors and security agencies, to support efforts aimed at safeguarding telecommunications infrastructure, which he described as vital to national development.
