The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga, has cautioned the youth against sharing nude and other intimate videos with their partners in the name of love.

According to him, content shared privately during a relationship could later become a source of embarrassment if the relationship breaks down.

“The video you share today because you believe you are in love can come back to haunt you when that love fades away,” Mr. Ayariga cautioned.

He explained that the circulation of such videos could have serious consequences for the individual’s reputation, particularly if the person later rises to occupy a prominent position.

“You may share a video today without thinking about the consequences, but tomorrow you may find yourself in a position where your reputation matters. That same video could be used against you,” he said.

Mr. Ayariga made the remarks while speaking to the media at the maiden edition of the National Youth Parliament Mock Sitting, a flagship civic initiative organised by the National Youth Authority in partnership with the Parliament of Ghana to immerse young people in legislative processes.

He also urged young people to exercise caution in their use of social media and digital platforms, stressing the importance of protecting their privacy.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has urged the youth to stay away from drug abuse and remain focused on achieving their goals.

The Minister expressed concern about the increasing abuse of drugs among young people.

“It is worrying to see young people, especially students, getting involved in drug abuse. You cannot achieve your dreams if you allow drugs to take control of your life,” Hon. Opare Addo said.

He also encouraged the youth to participate actively in debates on national issues but cautioned them against provocative arguments that could create divisions among Ghanaians.

“Debate is good for our democracy, and I encourage the youth to speak on national issues. But let our debates be constructive. We must not use our voices to provoke one another or create disunity,” he advised.

The Minister further entreated the youth to use platforms such as the National Youth Parliament Mock Sitting to develop their leadership skills and contribute meaningfully to national development.
